After driving down to Seward, the weather was so bad that our glacier cruise was cancelled and we decided our fishing charter for the next day was unlikely to go out. We went to Kenai Fjords National Park and walked around Exit Glacier then headed back to Anchorage. The next day we decided to go glacier trekking and ice climbing at the Matanuska Glacier.

Here we are with some of the ice formations in the background.

Johnny climbing up the ice.

Almost at the top!

Here's Johnny repelling.

The glacier has some amazing formations throughout.

The car lot and MICA Guides building are near the center of the picture.

Nothing like the taste of pure, crisp glacier water.

Here we are in Denali National Park.

The day was perfect. Temps were in the 70s and the skies were completely clear. Rarely visible, we were able to see Mt. McKinley on this day.

More scenery

A Bald Eagle hangin' out

Look at the rack on this caribou. It was walking right next to our bus.

Take a look at the height of this fireweed. Normally a few feet high, this fireweed was 6 to 8 feet tall!

Rafting at Six Mile Creek down class III, IV and V rapids. We had a great time.

Johnny enjoying the day

This canyon is very narrow at places - making some of the rapids difficult to maneuver.

Waiting for the crew to get ready for the third canyon rapids.

Those are my feet and Johnny can be see wearing the yellow helmet. We floated down the river at the end of our trip.

Afterwards we went to Hope to fish for pink salmon. Here's one of mine.

This was Johnny's first salmon! We fished until around 10:30 p.m. There was still plenty of light but the fish decided to take a break, so we headed back to Anchorage.
